Some days you can sit in front of a blank piece of paper, or a blank wordpad document, and the ideas just won’t come. Unless you are completely immersed in your field of expertise 24/7, there will surely be days where you just won’t feel like you have anything to talk about.
For example, this is exactly what’s happening to me today! I haven’t been able to work too much these past couple of days, so I don’t have any exciting new developments to report. Now I’m left thinking what I can blog about. Luckily, this thought in itself has inspired this post!
Of course, these concepts apply to any content creation, but since I’m a blogger I’ll take it from this point of view.
1. Check Out Your Favorite Blogs
Take a look at some of your favorite blogs and see what they are talking about today. Perhaps you can respond to a topic, and begin a cross blog discussion. Maybe you disagree completely, and can blog about that.
It’s not about copying other people’s ideas here, it’s about building and expanding on concepts, and giving them your own voice.
You can also check out the big name bloggers in your niche, and see what they are blogging about. Chances are though that their posts will be very comprehensive, but that doesn’t mean that you can’t bring more to the table.
2. Your Work / Projects
A lot of the time, your experiences can yield the best writing from you. Teach others what you know, and what you learn. Take notes while you are working whenever you see something new that you are interested in, and pass along the new discoveries.
People LOVE to read about what works. Just look at the popularity of the big “make money online” blogs like John Chow or whatever. They have succeeded, and prove it. Now everyone wants to join them! So if you discover things that work for you, then let people know!
3. The “Inspired” You
Some days, I want to post like 3 times! I just have a bunch of ideas I want to blog about. On these kinds of days, write down every idea that comes to mind, and build up a topic bank. Then, on days you aren’t as inspired, you can easily go back and grab a topic. Just make sure to write them down, or else you will forget. Trust me ><
Also, I’ve read that writing posts in advance on these kinds of days is also a very good practice. You will probably get them done way faster, and they will be even higher quality than on those days where the spark just isn’t there.
4. Social News Sites
Digg, Reddit, Sphinn, etc. All of these sites can have some great posts that people are really buzzing about. Jump on the bandwagon, and let your voice be heard about some of these topics. They are popular for a reason
There’s a good chance that there will be categories for your field, or even an entire site dedicated to your niche! For example, Sphinn is a cool resource for the Internet Marketing domain. Check them out, and get active in the community and you will not only get more inspiration, but your posts will get more attention!
5. Special RSS Feed Collection
Here’s an interesting idea. Create a specialized RSS feed collection containing only sites that you get ideas from frequently. Then it could potentially become a super easy place to get inspiration fast. You know, I have an RSS feed you could start this list with
Bonus Update: 6. Your reader’s comments
If you have a blog, then you can get a lot of ideas from your reader’s comments. Answer their questions, and build on discussions! This is a fantastic source for ideas, and you will be directly helping the people that visit your site, strengthening and creating a readership base.
Hopefully these tips will help you on the days where the ideas just don’t come easy. Leave a comment with your favorite ways to get inspiration as well!

Those were great, I find myself either running out of ideas, or having too many of them, I will write them down, but often times, forget where I put the list, or one of my children run off with it somewhere unknown to tear it up in little pieces! lol. Beautiful blog btw.
There are some really good ideas there, I’m always having trouble thinking of things to write about.
Cheers
Have to say that for me using the topic bank has worked for me the best, but also to see what is being said around on other blogs in the blogosphere inspires me to write my view on what is being discussed.
Hey guys, glad you all enjoyed this article.
I am going to update this page with one more tip that I just thought about (and you half inspired!)
These are great! Especially in a niche market, it gets a bit tiresome trying to find things to write about. I find alot of times, when I go off topic for the work blog - it gets more traffic and perhaps some of them will remember when they need an exhibit!
