If you want to have a successful blog, then you definitely have to put a lot of time and effort into it creating valuable posts and resources for your readers. But what good is working so hard if no one finds the fruits of your labour?
Your goal should always be to get as many visitors as possible, and one of the best kinds of visitors are the ones that find you through search engines. They have searched for a specific topic, and hopefully, will find your page as the answer to their query. That makes them interested, open visitors who are much more likely to read, bookmark, and subscribe to your blog.
So how do you rank higher in search engines?
SEO, or Search Engine Optimization, is an complex topic, which I’ll definitely be talking a LOT about in this blog in the future, as it’s my preferred method of traffic generating. However, the super duper simple answer is that the more websites that link to you, the more relevant your page becomes in the eyes of the search engines and the higher you rank.
I just recently went and submitted my blog to a bunch of places to gain some backlinks, so I thought I’d share with you some good resource lists to get more backlinks to your blog.
This is a really great list of blog directories you can submit your blog to for a backlink. While some of the links don’t work anymore, it is still a really comprehensive list, and has plenty of great places to submit.
The most important links though are the two top ones, the Yahoo directory and DMOZ directory submissions. It is pretty well known that search engines count these backlinks very high up on the scale, so even though it can be a difficult and long process to get listed with them, it’s definitely worth giving it your best shot.
Here you can submit your blog’s RSS feed which will be indexed by these RSS directories. It’s another good way to pick up some nice backlinks. You’ll find a few of the blog directories in here, but there are a lot of new places to submit.
I’m really only beginning to scratch the surface here, but I just used these lists and found them pretty helpful so I thought I’d share them with you. There will be plenty more SEO related tips and tricks in the future, because that’s my main focus, as opposed to PPC advertising. So stay tuned!
