After being frustrated yet again by blog-style functionality that just isn’t available with Drupal, I’ve decided to take the plunge and switch over to Wordpress. I love Drupal, I’ve been using it ever since I built my first site over a year ago, but for serious blogging, it just doesn’t make the cut. It’s a CMS at heart, and I really don’t need all that functionality for this blog.
Wordpress is definitely the blog specialist, and has a lot of great features I want to use. Of course after developing this blog in Drupal for over 6 months, it’s not an easy move at all, but I feel it’s necessary.
I’ve found a few really great resources that perhaps will help you someday as well:

Fantastic Drupal to Wordpress migration post with an SQL script that works quite well. You need to migrate to Wordpress 2.0 for it to work.

Great information about how to set up 301 redirects to your new Wordpress posts. Contains SQL to grab all Drupal URL aliases.

This post probably saved me hours of searching for Wordpress plugins. Just an amazing list! I’ve downloaded over 40 of them!

Here’s a cool top 30 comment plugins list.

And a top 30 spam protection plugins list.
So, over the next few days I’ll be working my butt off to get this done, and I’ll add links should I find anything extraordinary to report. Wish me luck ![]()

Wordpress is obviously the better choice!
Welcome to the family!
You are going to be a Wordpress blogger soon!
i agree with Deimos, wordpress is way better.
I never used Drupal for blogging but you are right, Drupal is kind of a blunt tool for blogging. Wordpress is King. My blog is on blogspot and one day I will shift it but blogger is working OK for what I am using it for.
I feel your pain man…it’s tough doing anything blog oriented with a CMS. We are using Joomla for our site at work, but now they want to have certain people write blogs. There’s no way around it…I’m going to have to build a blog with Wordpress to link to, because Joomla’s blog functions are crap.
I hate those type of switches. And it’s hard to leave Drupal behind with all the potential it has. I love Drupal and wish I had the time to build a custom site with it.
You’re going to love WP … it’s easy to learn … I’ve done a lot with it in just one month with no prior experience. Good luck.
I’ve also tried Drupal before but decided to stick to WordPress because of its flexibility, dedicated team, extended functionality thru plugins, numerous themes available, and several other reasons.
Truly, WordPress is the best publishing software ever created.
Thanks for commenting guys. The migration is going well so far, just found and tested all the plugins I’m going to need. Now it comes down to a lot of manual editing unfortunately
Will be worth it though I’m sure, I’m already liking it so far.
Aw, I don’t want to be all alone in my drupal world:-) Actually I’m only using drupal so I can have functionality later for my site, forums, e-commerce, etc.
I’m sure you’ll love it though, Wordpress is like google, it’s everywhere!
Mommie
I tried Wordpress for a while and settled back on Google’s Blogger. Why ? Because my articles go to number 1 or number 2 with search on Google. Google bots love Google blogs. Don’t ask me why….
Its a smart decision buddy. You will feel more easy than before. One benefit you get here in Wordpress, you will be able to promote your product easily with great information and earn money in less time. Secondly, your blog will be indexed very quickly in search engines with less efforts.
You’ll enjoy WordPress as it is the best (in my opinion) blogging platform available to you. Just remember to back it up regularly and do the updates as they roll out. Best wishes with your Drupal move.
My blog used to be on the Drupal platform. After using it for several months, I decided to migrate to WordPress because Drupal just didn’t have the right plugins for what I wanted. WordPress is like a swiss army knife for blogging.
Good luck!
I find WP most flexible. Used to blog on Blogspot but have since changed since Nov last year. WP is indeed the entry level standard for serious bloggers. You have made a good right choice.
“Drupal is a CMS at heart.” Amen. I manage different blogs on both, but Wordpress, to me, is the best option for serious blogging. Mind you, I LOVE Drupal as a CMS, and for small scale blogging it gets the job done, but it’s not even really an apples to apples comparison in my mind. One pounds in a nail, the other twists in a screw.
