StatsThere’s no doubt that to optimize your affiliate marketing to it’s full potential, you have to analyze your visitors behavior. You have to check conversions, click through rates, traffic volumes, and more. If you can do this well, then your earnings can only go up.

But, if your like me, statistics can also be a curse. Why? Because they are just so darn fun to look at! Who doesn’t like seeing their hard work translated into real measurable numbers and dollars. The only problem is… it’s totally addictive!

The absolute first thing I do when I get on the computer is check my Analytics, my Clickbank, my Adsense etc. All of the places that might have some good news. It can be a great start to the day to see a huge spike in traffic, or a nice big juicy sale. So then, I get to work, and like most of you I’m sure, I have a fair amount of procrastination in me.

So, maybe I’ll hit a snag during the day, and what better thing to do than check my stats again! Wow, very little has changed, but I’ve wasted time and interrupted my work… This is not an uncommon occurrence either unfortunately.

Statistics are like a Siren’s song, they just lure you in, especially when you are near the beginning of new campaigns and whatnot.

I’m actually starting to think that it’s a big problem! Looking back at how much time it wastes during a day, it’s quite significant. This sort of time waster also applies to a lot of other people in the form of emails, or funny sites etc.

So, I think I will now set myself a new challenge of limiting my checking of statistics to a maximum of 2-3 times a day. This way, I’ll have less interruptions, get more work done, and it will be a lot more interesting on the few times I check them.

How about you, do you have a vice that constantly distracts you? If so, comment below, and hopefully you’ll join me in the campaign against procrastination!
